Knitting research for sports orthopaedics

Tailored Bond is a long term, on-going research project that explores the possibilities involved in the combination of 3D technologies, human biology and technical industrial knitting. The aim behind this investigation is the creation of a textile exoskin for the human body i.e. technical textile assisted healing devices - such as medical braces - that can give custom made external support to different tissues of a body.

 

The knit is engineered zonally, so each area has a different function, as indicated through the use of different colours. Knitted areas, with different properties, will correspond to the original mapped muscles, tendons, ligaments and other soft tissues.
